Industrialised Construction – Methods – System and Control
Including aspects such as AWP (Integrated work planning), MMC, DfMa, Modular, Lean, Offsite build - Volumetric Construction
Industrialised construction has the potential to revolutionise the way we approach building and Infrastructure projects. By integrating advanced methodologies and technologies, we can enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall project delivery. Here are some key components of industrialised construction that are shaping the future of the industry:
Advanced Work Packaging/(Integrated work planning) (AWP): AWP/IWP is a project management approach that focuses on breaking down construction work into manageable packages. By planning and coordinating tasks in advance, teams can ensure seamless execution, minimize delays, and boost productivity.
(Integrated work planning)
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC): MMC encompasses a variety of innovative building techniques that streamline the construction process. This includes prefabrication and modular techniques that allow components to be manufactured offsite and then assembled on location, significantly reducing construction time.
Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA): DfMA is a design approach that emphasizes the efficiency of manufacturing and assembly processes. By considering these factors during the design phase, we can create structures that are easier and more cost-effective to produce, ultimately enhancing project sustainability.
Modular Construction: This method involves creating entire sections of a building offsite, which are then transported and assembled on the construction site. Modular construction offers flexibility, reduces site disruption, and can result in faster project completion times.
Lean Construction: Lean principles focus on maximizing value while minimizing waste. By optimizing workflows and resource utilization, teams can enhance productivity and ensure that projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Offsite Build - Volumetric Construction: Volumetric construction takes modular to the next level by building entire rooms or units offsite and transporting them to the site for quick assembly. This method can significantly reduce the time and labour required on-site, making it an appealing option for many projects.
Overall, industrialised construction methods represent a significant shift in how we approach building and infrastructure projects, emphasizing efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. As the industry continues to evolve, these techniques will play a crucial role in shaping the future of construction.
