How Sunbelt Supported Balfour Beatty with On-Site Environmental Monitoring
Sunbelt Rentals UK and Ireland
Long term COMIT member, Sunbelt Rentals supported Balfour Beatty on the Canvey Island Southern Shoreline Revetment Scheme, a £60 million Environment Agency project to upgrade 3.2km of coastal defences. Because the works take place extremely close to homes and businesses, Balfour Beatty committed to continuous environmental monitoring to minimise disruption and maintain Section 61 compliance.

Sunbelt Rentals deployed a full suite of environmental monitoring equipment across the site. The Casella Guardian 2 units measured noise, dust, wind and vibration at key boundary locations. The solar powered iMetos station monitored rainfall, wind speed, daylight levels, temperature and humidity. A SigiCom Infra C22 vibration monitor was positioned near a local café to track vibration impacts from drilling and other activities. All devices fed live data into an online portal, generating automated alerts and scheduled reports so the team could respond instantly to threshold breaches.
This monitoring capability enabled Balfour Beatty to evidence environmental performance, adjust working methods when needed, and pause operations safely if limits were exceeded. It also strengthened engagement with nearby residents by providing transparent, accurate data. The system ensured project continuity while protecting the community from excessive noise, dust and vibration.
